Squamata: Agamidae
Amphibolurus muricatus
We spotted this Jacky Lizard in the open on a dry section of a waterhole.
I got down on the ground and edged slowly towards it on my belly, taking more ground-level photographs of the lizard as I went.
Instead of making a run for it as I had expected it to do at some stage, the Jacky Lizard started making runs at me. I was having trouble focusing with the animal so close and started edging back, but each time I did, the lizard ran closer again.
No doubt, the spectacle of the photographer backing up on his belly across a dry dam floor pursued by a little lizard would have been quite amusing but luckily no-one was witnessing this assault on my dignity.
Not that I had much anyway considering the state of my clothing when I finished photographing my little adversary.
